It is critical to build solid fundamentals of life. Unless you get them right, becoming the best version of yourself is going to be an uphill task. On the other hand, if your life is built upon a solid foundation, you’ll find it easy to sail through your daily tasks and weather storms that come your way.
These are the five most important pillars of your life: Sleep, Physical Workout, Nutrition, Social Life, and Meditation. Here are a few details about each of these and conditions that determine if you have these in place or not.
Sleep: The mother of all activities. We’re like children who, after playing all day in the dust and rain (our daily chores), fall back into mother’s lap in the end (the sleep). How do you know if this is in place? Getting deep and unbroken sleep of 7 to 8 hours (or whatever your body demands) every day, starting no later than midnight and ending no later than 9 AM on most days. Check out Andrew Huberman’s protocols for good sleep health.
Physical workout: A very important lever for a good life! Releases happy hormones, regulates metabolism, keeps your heart healthy, and of course: makes you look awesome! You’re smashing it if you are doing strength training, Yoga, cardio or any other form of physical activity at least 4 times a week.
Nutrition: A must for a robust body and a well functioning brain. Condition: having mostly plant-based diet and making sure you have no deficiencies and are measuring and consuming all macro and micronutrients in apt amounts. You should be ingesting very little caffeine, minimal sugar, and almost no processed food.
Social life: Having regular connects with friends, family, and acquaintances. I’ve very recently learnt that having people (even if you don’t know them) around can have a surprisingly positive effect on your mental health!
Meditation: The key to mind control, and hence, the quality of your life. You score fully in this if you meditate at least thrice a week for at least fifteen minutes per session.
Would you rate yourself 100% in each of these fundamentals? If yes, you are doing a lot of things right in your life!
