For all my passion for science, I also have some deeply unscientific beliefs. One of them is that every major event in our life is predetermined.
As if this wasn’t enough, I have an equally provocative and opposing belief as well: even if every single event is predetermined, the only purpose of existence is effort.
Why should we ever make an effort if the result is anyway predetermined? Because this is the law of karma. If you’re destined to fail, you will fail, and if you’re destined to succeed, you will succeed. But you are supposed to keep trying. Working. Struggling. Keeping the wheel of worldly duties and responsibilities, moving. That’s the bottomline. To keep working, without any expectations, surrendering to fate.
You might or might not find what you’re seeking. But you have to keep working for it. This is the essence of Karma Yoga.
